Glossary of Terms for Vinyl Siding and Siding InstallationsA B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z P Panel Projection: The distance that a panel of siding sticks out away from the wall, you should choose the largest profile for the style of panel available in order to prevent weather damage to the wall of the house. Panel Siding: Available in sheets, 4x8 feet. Examples of panel siding include Texture 1-11. Because panel siding can be installed quickly, it can be a less expensive option than other types of siding. Plywood Siding: Plywood sheets of siding, available with a grooved or decorative pattern. Positive Lock: The area below the nail hem that the butt locks onto, but can also easily slide back and forth for ease in installation. This ensures that the panels stay permanently affixed during high winds. Plumb: A position or measurement that is exactly vertical, 90 degrees from a level surface. Profiles: The actual siding panels. Some commonly sized profiles are D4, D5, T3, Clapboard and Dutch Lap.
